If some deranged person was to make a 1 mg/ml solution of DOB-HCl, would 50% ethanol be a suitable choice? Would another dilutant be preferred?
Also, does anybody have an educated guess at DOB-HCl's solubility in DMSO? Would freebase DOB be more soluble?
I can't seem to find the solubility-data myself, so I would appreciate any help.

I think that 50% ethanol would be a good choice as it would prevent any microbes from growing that might consume the DOB.

Since someone brought up the issue of solubility, can anyone suggest a procedure to seperate 2,5-DMA from DOB(I)?
 The synthesis of DOI where silver sulphate is reacted with iodine in EtOH will leave behind some 2,5-DMA, is there anyway to seperate it without column chromatography?

Say that you have 80% yield. That would give you 0.8 mg DOB and 0.2 mg 2,5-DMA in a mg. Do you think you could feel the effects of about 0.5 mg 2,5-DMA on top of the DOB?

You won't be able to differentiate the effects.  2,5-DMA's activity is over 100 mg.  I agree with Rhod but running a column of a primary amine sucks.  BOC it and it and it makes it streak a lot less or add AcOH or DIEA to the eluent.

You don't need to run a column on the freebase as long as the DOB is present in a significant excess over any unreacted 2,5-DMA. Just recrystallize the final amine salt once or maybe twice (TLC will tell if you have gotten rid of the starting material). The recrystallization solvent is then evaporated, A/B'ed and the recovered 2,5-DMA (obviously contaminated with DOB) is then subjected to another bromination to increase the total yield (this is only necessary if you are working with a significant amount of amine, if you just brominated a couple of millimoles in the first place, re-bromination is futile).

Thanks Rhodium, that was an excellent response, thanks for the Rfs too. A FOAF says the iodination procedure detailed on your page is a good procedure for 2,5-DMA, but it is best done under red-light or in the dark.

Yellium, if somebody is taking 3mg of a compound, how comfortable is it to know that maybe 20% of it is something else (although inactive)? If someone wants to take a 3mg dose, they take 3,5mg instead to compensate for impurities? YUCK!!
Sorry, but SWIM doesn't understand how bees go so far to make their compounds, then settle for impurties in the final product.

With DOB it's not a big problem, eating 0,5mg shit is usual ok. Try with mescaline, then 20% is 100mg. Eating 100mg is not alwayes good.
